Hi everyone. It’s nice to have you join me today. Together, we’ll make this adorable layering diorama shadow box card into a birthday card someone is sure to remember. It features the new layering diorama dies from the Annual Catalog. We’re also using the Turtle Friends Bundle and the Mountain Air Stamp Set and Majestic Mountain Dies to build this cute birthday card. Whoever you give it to, will really enjoy it!

Inside Diorama

Scoring

Grab the 8½ x 5½ piece of Soft Sea Foam. You’ll need to cut a sliver (about 1 16th of an inch) off of the long side of this piece. This will allow it to lay better on the inside of the card. Score this piece on the long side at ½, 4¼, and 4¾”. Also pick up the 4 3/16 x 5 7/16″ piece of Pear Pizzaz. Score this at ¼ on one short side. Turn it 180 degrees and score it at ¼” again on the other short side. This is all the scoring needed other than the card base at 4¼” on the long side. You’ll note that the card base won’t have even sides. One side will be ½” shorter than the other. The shorter side is the back of the card.

Die Cutting the Diorama

Go back to the Soft Sea Foam piece that we scored first above. Fold and burnish all your score lines. Place the larger of the two diorama dies we are using (see video) between the ½ and the 4¼” score lines. Your opening and the ½” score line will be on the left. Cut this out with your Stampin’ Cut and Emboss Machine.

Next line up the score lines on the Pear Pizzazz scored paper behind the the ½ and 4½” score lines on the Soft Sea Foam paper. Make pencil marks through the opening. Line up the smaller diorama die and cut it out with the Stampin’ Cut and Emboss Machine.

If you want to stamp an image on the back of your diorama, now is the time to do so. Remember this piece opens to the left, so make sure you are stamping your image the correct way.

Assembling the Layers of the Diorama

Grab your card base and the Soft Sea Foam insert. Adhere the back (non scored side) of the insert to the short side of the card base.

Add strong adhesive to the ¼” scored areas on the Pear Pizzazz cardstock. Line up the edge of the cardstock with the first score line on the right. Remove the release paper on your adhesive and fold over as shown. Next, remove the release paper from the other side of the middle piece. Lay the card down, this time folding at the 4¾” score line. There should be one scored area left showing on the Soft Sea Foam piece. Place adhesive on this and remove the release paper. Fold the front of the card down over this to adhere. Your diorama is made! Now all you need to do is decorate it!

Decorating the Layering Diorama Shadow Box Card

For the inside of the card, you’ll need to stamp one of the large turtles, one small turtle, a couple evergreen trees, a cloud, and one of your sentiments.

Add one small and one large turtle to the outer layer of the diorama, Tuck the trees into the middle layer along with the cloud. Finally, add your sentiment. Here I used the “you are turtle-y loved.”

Decorating the Front of the Diorama Card

For the front of the card, you’ll need the last piece of Pear Pizzaz cardstock. Here I’ve run this piece through the Stampin’ Cut and Emboss Machine with the Hammered Metal 3D Embossing Folder just to give it some texture. You’ll also need the cut outs from your diorama dies, another large turtle, a bow, and the happy birthday sentiment. Decorate the front of the card as shown here.

    • I’m glad you like this one. Most of the ones I saw with the layering diorama dies were under water themed cards, so I wanted to show they would work with other themes as well.
