Instructions
If you cut the 3¾ x 11″ piece of card stock first, you can get the base for the entire project out of one sheet of card stock.
Holder assembly
Fold and burnish all score lines on the holder. On the long side, cut the small ½ inch tabs created by scoring. Cut only to the first score line on both sides. Make sure you miter these tabs a bit, just so they will lay better. Fold this up into an open topped box. When you fold it up, you can see the two surfaces facing front. Those are the two you want to decorate with Designer Series Paper (DSP).
If you want a mat under your DSP like the one shown in the picture, use the measurements above for the mat and then step the DSP sizes down by ¼”. So, your DSP sizes would be 2 3/8 x 3 3/8″ and 3 3/8 x 1¾”. It is easier to adhere the mats and DSP now than after you’ve glued everything together. If you have directional paper, make sure up is the edges of the card stock. You will be putting the mats on opposite sides of the card stock base. When you fold it up, they will both be facing forward. Now, you can glue the sides together and form your open topped box. Once your box is glued together, cut the sides at an angle just to give it a nice finish. Set this aside for a moment.
Easel Assembly
Next, take the 3¾ x 11″ piece of card stock and fold and burnish all the score lines. On the score lines with the three close together, fold two as mountain folds and one as a valley fold. This is your easel. After you’ve got everything folded, glue the two ends together so it will lay flat, but will stand up if you spread the bottom folds apart.
Assembling the parts
Glue the easel onto the back of the holder, making sure the “W” on the bottom of the easel is aligned with the bottom of your holder box. You might want to run your bone folder over the inside of the box to activate the glue and spread it out over the card stock surface.
Pen Holder and Pen
Pen Holder
After you’ve got your post-it note holder easel together, the last steps are for the pen and pen holder. The last piece of card stock you should have is the 2½ x 2 5/8″ piece scored at every half inch. This you want to fold and burnish all score lines in the same direction until you form a tube. Glue the two ends together so the tube is square. Then place adhesive down the outside of two adjacent sides of the tube and insert it into the holder box all the way to one side. You may need to use a pen to push it into place up next to the front and side of the box.
Matching Pen
To make the matching pen, you need a tube style pen with a separate lid. Click style pens won’t work. Take the bottom stopper off the pen. Roll a piece of coordinating DSP (3 x ¾”) into a long tube. Insert this into the pen tube around the ink tube. Then, replace the stopper back onto the pen.
These Post-It note easel holders with matching pen are great gifts! They are quick and easy to make. Once you get going, you’ll be making them for all your book club, scout leaders, teachers, coaches, and friends. Post-it easel holders also make great Secret Santa gifts! Or, just an anytime gift!
