No Mistakes in Paper Crafting

If you’ve attended any of my classes, you’ll know that I tell my students that there are NO mistakes in paper crafting! There are just opportunities to be creative! More often than not, that opportunity turns out an even more creative and beautiful project.

No Mistakes in paper crafting

Crooked Sentiment! UGH!

For example, if you stamp a sentiment on your card and it is crooked. What do you do? Do you trash that piece of cardstock and start over? Absolutely not! First and foremost, there are always 2 sides to every piece of cardstock. NEVER adhere your cardstock down until you’ve done your stamping! If you stamp first, then you always have the other side or your cardstock to try a second time.

If you’ve tried twice and it is still crooked or you rocked the stamp and you have a line around it, what then? What if you’ve done a bunch of stamping and the sentiment is the last thing you’re adding? You don’t want to trash all your hard work. Still, no mistakes in paper crafting. You can still recover! Take a piece of scrap the same color as your base cardstock and stamp your sentiment. Then, die cut or punch out your sentiment a bit larger than the one on your cardstock. Maybe flick the edges with coordinating ink and adhere it in place OVER the crooked sentiment. Voila! Fixed good as new!

Got Ink Where It Shouldn’t Be

Maybe you are stamping along and don’t realize you’ve gotten ink onto one of your fingers. Then that finger smudges onto your project! Or your ink pad is laying on the table and your project leans up against it. Believe me, I’ve done it! Still no mistakes in paper crafting! Just an opportunity to be creative. Think, what can I place there to cover it up? Can I move my sentiment there? What about moving the bow to that spot? Will that cover it up? If it is a small smudge, maybe a pearl or rhinestone will do the trick, then place a few more so it looks like it belongs.

Again I say, there are no mistakes in paper crafting, only opportunities to be creative. You just have to take a breath, step back and think of what you can do to make it better. Then do it. You will be the only one to know there is something underneath that is covered up!
