Instructions
Creating the Background
First, take the 5 x 3¾” piece of Whisper White cardstock, and cover it with adhesive. Make sure you cover it well. You want adhesive all over this card, not just on the edges.
Next you’ll want all your ½” strips of cardstock. Start by placing them at a diagonal on the whisper white. Note: This piece of cardstock can be any color. I just chose whisper white because it was handy. You won’t see the color of this piece of cardstock at all. When placing the strips, you can place them in a pattern or just randomly on the paper. Whatever works for you is fine. Keep placing cardstock strips on the base until you’ve totally covered the base paper. You’ll have tails hanging off the ends of your cardstock and you should have no white showing in between the strips of cardstock.
Once you’ve completely covered the background cardstock, turn it over and cut the tails off with scissors. It should be easy to cut a straight line, as you’ll use the whisper white base as your guide. This becomes your background sheet with the Fruit Striped Gum motif on your card. Lastly, you need to adhere this to one of the larger pieces of Whisper White cardstock. So, you have the background mounted on a white mat.
You may also want to put one stripe of each color on the inside piece of cardstock.
Stamping
We’ll need two different zebras from the Zany Zebras stamp set, in addition to, the “wild about you” sentiment. Mount them onto the appropriate sized acrylic blocks and get your Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad. Stamp one zebra onto the scrap of Whisper White and the other in the lower right corner of the last piece of 5½ x 4″ piece of Whisper White. Stamp the sentiment on another scrap piece of Whisper White.
Next, use the scalloped layering squares to cut out both the zebra and the scrap of Poppy Parade. Make sure the Poppy Parade is one size larger than the zebra. Once you’ve cut these out, you can adhere them together.
For the sentiment, you’ll want to use the Classic Label Punch to punch it out. Then you’ll need to punch out a piece of Daffodil Delight from one of the strips with the same punch. Cut the Daffodil Delight piece in half. and adhere each half to an end of the sentiment.
The last step before assembling our Fruit Striped Gum Card is coloring the zebra stripes. Here is where you get out your Granny Apple Green and Poppy Parade Blends Markers and color every other stripe on both zebras. Once you’ve colored in both zebras, you can begin assembling the card.
Assembly
Place the inside piece of cardstock on the inside of the cardbase. Adhere the matted background on the front of the cardbase. Put dimensional adhesives on the back of both the matted zebra and the matted sentiment. Place the matted zebra in the center of the front of the card. Adhere the sentiment directly under the matted zebra. And you are done!
I hope you enjoy these Zany Zebras as much as I do. Enjoy your Fruit Stripe Gum Card and send it to someone who might remember Fruit stripe gum.
