Gilded Leafing Flakes

Stampin’ Up!’s Gilded Leafing Flakes. What are they and how do we use them? Gilded Leafing Flakes are a jarful of gold foil leafing. We can use them to embellish many kinds of projects from 3D projects to cards.

Gilded Leafing Flakes

You will need some kind of adhesive under the flakes to get them to adhere to your project. We have several choices, from Tombow liquid glue to Heat & Stick powder to double sided tape. All will perform differently. Today, we are exploring just one of the adhesive options, the double sided tape.

I wanted to make a border with the gilded leafing flakes around the edge of my background sheet for Just Sayin’ card. This was the perfect opportunity to use these and show this technique.

Supplies Needed

  • Soft Seafoam Cardstock 5 x 3¾”
  • Gilded Leafing Flakes
  • 1/8″ scortape or sookwang double sided tape

How To Instructions

gilded leafing flakes

Add your adhesive to all 4 sides of the cardstock, running it right along the edge. For the corners, make sure you pull back some of the release paper and overlap the corners. If you don’t do this, it will show a gap where the adhesive didn’t meet. This just makes a cleaner look. If you want to emboss the cardstock, here is where you do it, AFTER you place the adhesive. It will also work to emboss after you put the gilding on it.

Place your gilded leafing in a shoe box or some other container. This will keep it from flying all over the place. Release one side of adhesive and dip into the gilded leafing flakes. You’ll pick up way more than you need. That’s ok. Next take your hard bristled brush and begin brushing the excess flakes back into the shoe box. Finally, polish the surface of the flakes to give a nice sheen, making sure you have complete coverage.

Repeat with the other 3 sides. And there you have a beautifully decorated background piece of cardstock to place on a card! Take a look at the Just Sayin’ card that I used this piece of cardstock on.
