Instructions
Making the Mask
Take the 2¾” square piece of DSP and your score board. Score it on one side at ½, ¾, 1¼, 1½, 2, 2¼”. Fan fold this with the first fold being a mountain fold. Use a bone folder to give these creases a nice press.
Next, you’ll need adhesive and the ½” strips of whisper white scraps. Score the scraps down the length at ¼”. Fold these in half and burnish them with your bone folder. These will serve as your “seam binding” for the edges of the mask.
Place a strip of adhesive on the back side of both ends of the mask. This will help keep it in place for the next step. Next, place adhesive on both sides of the white strip. Place the strip over the end of the mask, making sure you cover both the front and back of the mask. Do this for both ends of the mask. This is how you’ll keep your pleats in place. Cut the strip so it fits the mask.
This next step is a bit fiddly. You need to “open” the mask up in the center so it looks like it is fitted over someone’s face. To do this, you pull the pleats gently apart and refold the pleats a bit in the back center of the mask.
The last step to making the mask is attaching the earloops. When you attach earloops, place a glue dot on both ends of a 3″ piece of ribbon. Loop it around and adhere them to either side of the mask.
Assembling the Face Mask Card
Pick out an appropriate sentiment. You can get awesome sentiments from the Share Sunshine PDF Download by Stampin’ Up! on sale through June 2, 2020. Stampin’ Up! designed these sentiments specifically for the COVID-19 pandemic and they are perfect for this card. They are a downloadable pdf, so you can use them immediately. All proceeds from the sales of this pdf will be donated to help with COVID-19 response efforts. Place your sentiment in the lower right corner of your Whisper White cardstock.
Fold and burnish the card base. Attach the DSP to the card base. Adhere the Whisper White with your sentiment to the cardstock mat. I used dimensionals to attach the sentiment layer to the card base layer. Use dimensionals on the back of the mask to adhere it to the front of the card, as well. When adhering the mask to the front of the card, I found it easiest to attach the mask last.
And, there you have it! In a few easy steps, you’ve got a cute face mask card to send to someone you haven’t seen in a while.
